Star Spangled Apple Pie

As a child I remember every 4th of July going to  a church family cookout. The grill was fired up and the potluck tables were seemingly endless! But the food item I was most excited about was the apple pie! Even now as an adult with Celiac's Disease and food allergies, I'm so thankful I can still enjoy this classic Americana treat!

This Gluten Free Apple Pie is so easy to make thanks to Wholly Gluten Free's frozen pie crusts. They come as a 2 pack, so I used one for the base, added my apple pie filling (follow the directions on the back of the package or make your own). I thawed the second pie crust for about 20 minutes, rolled it out on parchment paper and cut into stars with a cookie cutter to place atop the pie. Sprinkle the entire pie with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar (follow your intuition here, but a tablespoon of sugar and a few sprinkles of cinnamon will do the trick if you've never made cinnamon sugar before). Bake as directed or until the filling is bubbly and the stars are golden!
